I want to escape to the Maldives, because I love diving and I hate English winters.

  2. Natalie says:

I think you know where I will be traveling to! Still many more places in Turkey to explore and check Skyscanner and they do internal flights across the country.

  3. Jeremy says:

We’re going to escape to Western Europe and then some starting next year on our second gap trip. Since we’re going to be gone to 1+ year.. it’ll help! We’re both 26 but will be 27 when we leave.

  4. Michelle says:

We would love to go anywhere!! We are wanna-be world travelers who are still getting out of debt (14 more months!) and then we will begin saving. Would love to take a trip with our kids to Costa Rica for a Spanish immersion course… we want to begin to world-school our children. Thanks for offering such a wonderful prize! 🙂

  5. Steph says:

I would probably use this prize for our honeymoon next year. I’d really love to take Mike to Iceland- it’s the most beautiful place i’ve ever been and it absolutely MUST be seen via roadtrip.

  6. Conrad says:

    Sigh.

I just hate doing this. But desperate men do desperate deeds.

    Sigh.

  7. Mary says:

Well we are traveling from Malaysia to Spain but after reading about your time in Egypt (brown nose points for saying I read your entries right?? :), we decided we really want to spend at least a week, maybe more there on our way.

I love archaeology an want to show the boys Egyptian history at the same time. If I say Minecraft will that sway the vote from Zach?? Minecraft, Minecraft!!!

  8. I’d love to escape to South America, especially Patagonia! It’s one of the only uncharted territories left on my travel bucket list!

  9. Ohh, so many places to go… I would have to choose Brasilia, Brazil. I’ve never been anywhere in South America, so I think it’s time.

  10. Hmm, totally forgot to leave my age. Awkward. I’m 28.

  11. Lottie says:

I would love to escape to Istanbul, Rome, Pompeii and Athens because I study Ancient History & Late Antiquity but I am still yet to explore these beautiful ancient places.

  12. No question, escape to Bhutan ANYDAY. It’s only money that is keeping me away.

Oh money, can’t we just be friends? You can come hang out with me in my wallet or bank account, then I’ll give you to nice people so I can go to Bhutan. Let’s do it together, money! TEAM!

  13. Bruce says:

Ski season will be starting soon. How about Steamboat Springs, Colorado? I’ve been to many resorts but not this one.

Whoops forgot my age – 29! Teach me to read the small print before commenting…

  20. Alouise says:

I have a friend who hasn’t been traveled anywhere (outside of a 2 hour driving radius from her home) since 2007, which I think is crazy (and not the good kind of crazy). I’d use the prize to go toward taking her on a vacation. We could fly to Seattle, a city she loves and hasn’t been to since 2006, and do a west coast road trip right to the southern tip of California, and maybe even into Mexico (she’s never been outside of Canada or the US). We’d check out some cities like Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. And in Oregon we’d take a detour to visit Astoria, which is where The Goonies was filmed (we both love that movie). We’d visit some great parks like Olympic National Park, Yosemite National Park, Muir Woods National Monument, and Crater Lake National Park. Moreso I’m sure we’d find a lot of really /unique/weird/wonderful treasures we never knew about. I’ve always thought a US west coast road trip would be amazing, and to help my friend get back into the travel groove would be great.

  21. Misty says:

I am a 33 year old single mother of 3 wild and wonderful kids who are all excited to get out in the world and become world travelers and let the world become there class room 🙂 we have decided we will start with somewhere warm…

  22. Joanne says:

ROME! I’ve seen the Vegas replicas but would love to see the real thing in person! Almost 42 and dream of travelling the world.

  23. Suzie says:

I’d head for Hanoi because I’m tired and ashamed of writing linkbuilding articles for my SEO agency’s travel company clients without ever having visited the countries I’m writing about.

  24. Caroline says:

The Nordic countries to study wolves (as research for a book I’m writing); to see the Northern Lights; to meet, for the first time, the toddler daughter of very dear friends in Oslo; to see Stockholm; to take a sabbatical from my job, which I will have been doing for 10 years this coming January; to visit a countries that do not usually seem to me as the affordable option; to… hang on is there a word limit to this?

  25. jasmine says:

My 11 year old son looks up at the frozen sky. His gloomy eyes Watchig the snow fall, i know what’s about to escape his angel lips. “oh my god mom!! I was meant to live somewhere warm!! Not this frozen wasteland.. 9 months of freezing cold, snow pants, frozen car, 28 winter layers, square tires… please this year can we just be somewhere warm for a little while?”
He reminds me that Australia would be wonderful.
I know it’s a cool 6 grand to be there and back, our australia savings fund has a smidgett of this amount in it.
we negotiate between Oz and Jamaica, Mexico, we daydream of maldives, Thailand, Bali, brazil, Peru..
we read through your blog one more time, and he wonders like most of us do sometimes what it would be like to live differently. Scrawling through escape artists adventures it’s hard to not be tempted in yearning for a new place and new adventures.
I wish for him to see the world. to wake up with new ideas and emotions and understanding of this big beautiful world, I suppose I wish the same for myself:)
I’ve had the opportunity to miss our home, I want this for my young son. to learn an appreciation for the life that’s been provided, mixed with a tiny little bite from a travel bug:)
best of travels to you both, please know you’ve got a couple of fans in Canada’s north!

  26. jasmine says:

    33 years old:)

  27. Caroline says:

No there isn’t an obvious word limit, so picking up from where the typos kicked in: to visit a number of countries that do not usually seem to me to be affordable options; to explain to Fred what a fjord is; to visit islands where Roald Dahl holidayed as a child; to drink vodka in Helsinki; to travel beyond the main cities; to get lost in forests… Um this isn’t open to friends is it. I’ll stop now then. Just thought you’d like to know!! x

    • Theodora says:

Actually, it’s TOTALLY open to friends — and for that matter family (although it would look a bit crap if a family member actually won)… Rafflecopter does some sort of magic with it, so apart from the 15 points for the most creative entry when everything closes, I really can’t fiddle anything at all.

The only people it’s not open to are employees of my lovely sponsors. So… wibble away!

I’m really enjoying reading these — so many different places that people dream of…

  28. Caroline says:

Talking of typos I think you meant to say: The only thing you HAVE to do to enter is leave me a comment saying where you’d like to escape to and WHY, then click “enter” on the widget below.

Not: The only thing you HAVE to do to enter is leave me a comment saying where you’d like to escape to and WHERE, then click “enter” on the widget below.

  29. Dave P says:

Thanks for the great contest. Our dream escape would be an African safari. We’d love to see the big animals on their migration. Someday… someday…

  30. Dani says:

I would love to escape to Africa! Can’t believe I haven’t set foot on the African continent yet, but there are a million things I want to do there: take a tour of the Sahara desert, cruise down the Nile, see the pyramids in Egypt, go on a safari in Kenya, swim with Great white sharks in South Africa, see the Victoria Falls, climb Kilimanjaro, enjoy the beaches of Zanzibar, go sandboarding in Namibia and a million other things 🙂

  31. Lisa M says:

Oh, my…most def the Caymans. We live in Minnesota, where your skiing picture is very apt. It’s cold here more than half the year. The Caymans (or something of their ilk) would be JUST the ticket come Jan or Feb!

  32. Jen says:

I’d love to go to Iceland. It just looks like such a fascinating place. Plus, I turn 30 soon and want to start this decade of my life with a huge bang.

  33. Tracey says:

Wow. So many choices! I think with extra travel bucks we would definitey visit Myanmar. I think it would be great to visit a very undeveloped nation and then come back many years later to see the progress!

  34. Tracey says:

Last time I checked, I was 40!! Ohmigod delete this comment!! l

  35. Jennifer says:

Oh goodness, where wouldn’t I like to go?! There are plenty of places Aidan and I haven’t been to. Looking at Skyscanner, I’d happily escape to Cuba or Peru. I’m the child of Cuban exiles, and I’ve always wanted to see where my family came from. My best friend is Peruvian, so would love to go there, too. (Plus, I hear the food scene is glorious, and there’s plenty of outdoor activities to be had.)

Would it be weird to say that I’d let Zac pick? Being that you started this blog when he was 9 and my own spawn is 9 at the moment, I think it’d be quite fun.

    I’m 28, btw.

  36. I want, actually make that need, to escape going home … wherever that is. I’ve been on the road 8 months with plans for 6 more and budget for way less than that. The more I see of this amazing world the more I want to see, the more I need to see. I’ve no idea how I am going to settle again. But if I do, there’ll always be a couple of beds in … well somewhere in Oz for you guys.

Huge congrats on 1000 days. I’ll raise a drink to 1000 more

  37. I would love to escape to Buenos Aires. Last I went, the kids were so young that they don’t remember much. Now they’re old enough to truly appreciate learning about my family’s cultural heritage.

  38. Nicole says:

I’m 22 but I’d like to escape because I feel that the longer I stay here – finishing my degree, working two jobs – that I’m getting pulled into the 9-5, the mundane, exactly where I don’t want to be!!! (yet :P)

  39. Oops didn’t leave my age but trust me when I say I’ve over 25. Like way over

  40. I’d go to Bangkok again because they have cheap beer (not like Oman which has virtually no beer) AND I’d like to track down the chap who stole my underwater that were drying in the hotel window last time I was there.

  41. Lisa says:

I want to escape to South Wales, because the cliffs are breathtaking, and the sheep don’t talk back.

    • Danita B says:

Ha! Awesome comment. I studied overseas in Wales (Carmarthen) for one semester when I was in college and it was beautiful.

  42. Sheila McDermid says:

I would love to win this trip. I am soon hitting a big milestone — yes — the bit ‘5 0’. Yikes!!!! I would love to begin the next 1/2 century (OMG – the more I write – the older I feel – lol) on a trip to remember. I think I would return to Scotland to visit some old ghosts during a genealogy search for both my husband and my long lost/departed families. Who knows…..maybe I’ll bring one of our ghosts back with me 🙂

  43. We would love the travel to Europe and China, but top on the list is Belize! We have friends from Belize and would love to travel with them and see their family. Their family has come here before, so it’s our turn to visit!

  44. I would like to escape into space. Float around in zero gravity and swim through the spaceship catching floating balls of grape juice and maltesers that hover deliciously in front of my nose. I would like to see the earth rise and marvel at things like the Great Wall of China and bulging cities and alien space craft and passing satellites.
Failing that I would love to escape to the Galapagos Islands and swim with the fishes.

  45. I want to escape to Denmark as a starting point. My ancestors came from a Viking clan in Denmark and over the centuries wandered to the US. I want to hit each significant spot on their journey- Denmark, Normandy France, Scotland, Ireland, and on to the US. Of course, I’ll enjoy the cultural aspects of each instead of burning villages, stealing gold, and taking prisoners. That would create havoc with exit visas and carry on bags.

  46. Dave says:

I was 50 this year and I spent my 45th birthday in Auckland Bay on a RTW trip. I’ve spent a lot of the last 5 years trying to find a way to get back to NZ, which is the only one of 40-something countries that I’ve visited where i felt genuinely sad to leave. It felt like home, and i want to go back, badly. Right now i am working in Slovakia (EFL teaching) and need to get somewhere more kiwified! Thanks

  47. I’d go to SE Asia with my wife. We are setting off for South America this December, so why not use this to jump over to our next continent. Sure we’d likely need a little extra airfare to get us both there, but with all the other prizes we will have a great foundation once we touch down!

Or if we get accepted into the Peace Corps we could use the airfare to return to the US before the send us off to wherever we are needed. The rest of the prizes could help us on our adventure in South America.

  48. Liking the new blog design!

I’m 27 and have been living in Spain for the past five years. While the life of sunshine and siestas more than suits me, I’ve been dying to escape to Africa and teach for a month or two like several of my friends have done. I’m thinking Namibia or Malawi…though, let’s face it, I’d settle for just escaping my master’s program and getting to nearby Málaga!

  49. Bethaney says:

I want to escape from the isolation of NZ. It’s so darn expensive here! I turned 30 last month and I’m on a quest to see 100 countries before I’m 40. I’m only at 22 so I need to get a wiggle on!!!

  50. Di Coke says:

Why have I not discovered your blog before? It’s fabulous! My son is two but we’ve already taken him to the Amalfi Coast, Barcelona and the Swiss Alps…. we’re building up to long haul and your blog is an inspiration!

Our dream escape would be to Sri Lanka – the tea, the tastes, the elephants, the snorkelling, the Buddhas, the tuk tuks! Just gorgeous.

    Oh, and I’m 38!

  51. Firsttimemumblog says:

I would love to escape together with my family to Venice for a weekend!

Cool photo taken with a durian!

  52. I have had enough of the cold and rain of England and Scotland and would love to escape to South East Asia ASAP! Malaysia is looking pretty good to me right now.

  53. janette says:

aww would put it towards Borneo and the swing bridge now thats back on the to do list (brownie points) lol and would also have to have something to do with the wildlife animals!

  54. Conrad says:

Age? Do we need that? Really? 20, there you have it, yo!. Or whatever.

  55. janette says:

opps age 41 but 30 at heart lol

  56. Tdo says:

I’m 49. If I was to travel solo, I’d go to one of the following destinations that I haven’t visited: Machu Picchu, Peru, or Greece as I’m interested in ancient history/ architecture or Portugal as I read that Lisbon is a nice city, and the Algarve has nice beaches. However, I have a cute son and I’d take him with me to any place with nice, sandy beach as he loves playing with sand, and we enjoy each other’s company when we travel 🙂

  57. New York! I would love to go and wander in central park and see the Empire State building.

    (age 50 )

  58. Tiffany F says:

I’m 39, my hubby is 38, and my boys are 10 & 9 years old. We’re gearing up for long term travel, starting with a practice trip to the UK in February. Isn’t it creative to leave our grey, chilly Seattle, Washington winter to go to, um, grey, chilly UK?
Seriously though…we want to go anywhere and everywhere. However, we would use this airfare to go to one of the many remote-ish islands my youngest son really wants to go. Probably Tasmania. It’s his first pick. I read many of your top 100 to my family on a car trip yesterday. #46 really struck a cord. And, we can’t wait to show our boys #49 around the world. Congrats on your great milestone!

  59. Teresa says:

Going to Costa Rica in a couple of months, so I can cross that off my bucket list. Next, my dream vacation would be to New Zealand because that is where the filmed LOTR/Hobbit! I’m 37.

  60. Raj Sandhu says:

I’d love to go to New York again, so I can shop, shop, shop! I’m 29

  61. Leaving for Italy in a couple weeks… Still searching for a cheaper fare. Skyscanner was $100 less thank anywhere else!! Awesome! Take me to Italia!

  62. Today, I would like to escape to Taipei, so I can have some delicious dumplings and a bubble tea 😀 Age? 37 and proud of it!

  63. I would love to take my son Diego to Morocco, as he is dying to go to Africa!

  64. andrea says:

I’m 38 and I’ve been thinking about how much I would love an escape from family and work to be blessedly ALONE!! I am now leaning towards Slovenia. Somewhat undiscovered place 🙂

  65. We as a unschooling family would love to go to Greece! There we would reconnect with long lost family and explore the rich history of the land where some of our family comes from! We are setting our sights on becoming a worldschool family and I know that this would whet our appetites!

  66. Meagan says:

I’d like to escape to…anywhere! Ok, not ANYwhere. Just anywhere that I don’t have to cook/clean/change diapers. And preferably somewhere hot. Mama needs a break.

  67. I’d escape to Italy, this time the south, Amalfi, or / and Puglia. I need to go to Italy because I’m an aspiring travel photographer and Italy is one big photo op. And there’s always a chance I’ll end up staying because I’ve met the man of my dreams.

  68. Kristen says:

Seeing as my attempt to strap myself to Curiosity failed and Mars is still out of reach, I’d like to escape to Iwakuni, Japan. I grew up there and haven’t been able to return for a visit (23 years and counting). My Mom recently went through chemo for breast cancer and I started a 1000 paper crane campaign. Little did I know that news reached my old neighborhood and they came together to fold 580 and sent them to my Mom. Not only would I like to return to my childhood home, I’d like to thank them in person. True story: http://cultivatehopeineducation.wordpress.com/2012/08/12/1000-paper-cranes-and-counting/

Aside from all this schmoopy moppy schtuff, Japan is awesome. I’d like to eat sushi until I puke, sing karaoke every night and see the cherry blossoms in spring.

  69. Kristen says:

P.S. Now I understand this is a giveaway and I shouldn’t be so particular but I have no desire to drive in Japan. There are bullet trains! Why would I drive!? No need for the rental car voucher for me and I don’t take tours, I’ve got my own two legs. They’ve gotten me in and out of plenty of adventures time and time again. And I don’t call people when I am escaping. Escape means escape.

  70. I’d like to escape Down Under to Australia and New Zealand to see if everything is topsy turvy just because their seasons are opposite ours.

  71. Cate Smith says:

I live in Abu Dhabi where the weather is always the same. All. Year.Long. I know that I should hope for a tropical vacation like everyone else, but I want to go somewhere cold. Very cold. So cold that I’ll have to buy a coat I’ll never wear again. Perhaps even cold enough that I’ll feel like drinking hot chocolate, which I don’t really like. Again, someplace so cold that my skin will chap and turn red from windburn. I’m thinking Poland, or Russia. Or maybe Detroit.

  72. Barbara says:

$400 in flights isn’t going to get the three of us very far. Perhaps if I won, I’d nip off for a lovely holiday ON MY OWN. I’m dying to visit a friend in Mongolia and Sri Lanka’s looking pretty good too.

    I’m a perpetual 35. 🙂

  73. Sri Bayu says:

Anywhere away from the GMT +8 timezone would be nice for a change! I’m thinking Ecuador, specifically the Galapagos Islands.

  74. Dave says:

I’m 107, but don’t look it most days. I’d totally be putting that flight money towards a trip to the Galapagos. Need to get there, like, yesterday.

  75. I’m 23. I’d definitely love to escape to the Maldives. Got to see it before it sinks!

  76. Gina M. says:

I’m 25 (in 12 days) and I’d love to escape to Hawaii! I’ve been dreaming of it since I was 10. I think it’s about time I make this 15 year dream come true!

  77. CHINA, CHINA, CHINA! We are about to escape round the world with our children for as long as possible and as far as possible. My 6 year old desperately wants to visit China for the Great Wall, the food and just the whole China vibe. Some freebies would get us off to a good start. Thanks ( now I’ve found another travel blog to read!) Alyson.

  78. Tash says:

I would combine my airmiles points (needed to get to the Northern Hemi!!), and bounce from the Middle East to Croatia and explore by roadtrip, including a visit to Sarajevo, which I have always wanted to see! Perfect!

Age!!?? Eeek! I am over 25….at the time of comp close I will be 34, but 35 just after that – thanks for reminding me! 😉

  79. I think somewhere in South America would be awesome… Snowboarding in a Chilian Ski Resort!

  80. Martina P says:

I’m 21. At first i wanted to go across Europe to Nepal by car or motorcycle, but even more, I would love to go to Italy, beause it feels much more like home than the place i’m currently at.

  81. What an amazing competition! When I was 20 I visited Italy. Now I am 31, married, with two kids and I would love to take them all to Italy. It won’t be the same, but Im sure it will be better. The art, the culture, the pizza, the gelato, the history, the religion. It has everything. And of course the thing I never saw while there is number one – The Blue Grotto; Capri, Italy. Perhaps we could manage a stop at the weirdly beautiful terraced pools of Pamukkale in Turkey?

  82. Megan says:

i live in norway and am already suffering through temperatures that are colder than anything ive ever felt…and its OCTOBER! i need a winter escape somewhere warm before i end up buried under heaps of snow!

and the place would have lots of winter sunlight 😉 beggers cant be choosers

  83. So you’re probably pretty sympathyless, but I’m a Texas girl freezing my ass off already in Germany. TAKE ME SOMEWHERE WARM AND I’LL BE FOREVER INDEBTED! I also just moved and have ZERO money to fulfill my travel itch, always cool.

  84. I would like to escape from Bergen, Norway and go to San Diego, CA. I haven’t been home in almost two years. I don’t not have the finances to go back home and see my sister graduate and head off to college. Norway is really hard on foreigners. I can’t get a job, a drivers license cost more than 4,000 USD, my husband and I have to live in his parents basement apartment, and now knowing I can’t go home for another year and a half is horrible. So I’d go home and see my family even though my husband and I haven’t had our honeymoon yet.

  85. grasya says:

Get me out of ASIA! pretty please? ^_^

I want to escape to Germany or Austria, (or Italy, England, Lithuania, Norway, Turkey etc etc).. I’m above 18 and just want to travel to other continents, so please get me out of here :))

  86. Bek & Bean says:

If we could escape to anywhere? We’d escape to EVERYWHERE!! The World is huge, with amazing things to see, and experiences to have (a Babel-fish would be nice, too!!).
We’d visit old friends in other countries that we’ve met while they were visiting Australia, and Australian friends who have chosen to move to another country- going to- Scotland, Ireland, England, Japan, Canada, America, Brazil, France, Germany & New Zealand, so far, off the top of my head.
We’d see all the sights & experience all the cultures, try all the food & learn all the dances, go from the calm of diving at the Maldives to the chaos of buying silk at a Chinese marketplace, from ice to desert, rainforest to ocean, totally lose ourselves in the World.
And Why? For the experience, and for the love of it!
Given the prize, however, we’d probably opt for a trip to Adelaide, to visit some of the family, with a lovely Dive with the Dolphins thrown in, because it sounds amazing, and a drive around the Adelaide Hills, because they’re lovely 🙂

    • Bek & Bean says:

Hi again, just letting you know, we’re totally old enough to be driving a car… 41 & 36 respectively 😉 (Oooh, & China, we’d like to add that, too… and….)

  87. JANE DALE-BEAUMONT says:

Tonga, ever since i heard the name i have wanted to escape there, it looks so beautiful, with ancient culture and beauty everywhere, foods , customs , lovely.

  88. Lindsey says:

I’m 28 and a Special Education Teacher and my Mom who grew up in the 1950’s on a VERY rural farm in the southern part of the U.S. taught me to dream of traveling at a young age. She’s always wanted to go to Australia. So If I win, I’ll take my Mama on the trip she’s always dreamed about.

  89. Halie says:

I’m working for a study abroad company, which basically means I sit at a desk reading and writing about the amazing destinations students are heading off to– so right now I’m very jealous! After writing so much about it without having ever seen it, I’d like to go to Barcelona to see the Gaudi architecture and Park Guell.

  90. Lisa Gish says:

I am 49 and my 3 (of 9) youngest children and I just enjoyed biking along the C & O Canal. We had such a lovely time! I would want to go somewhere warm that has some fantatic biking scenery. Do you have any great ideas for me?

    • Theodora says:

Well, yes, I have a bunch of them. But we’re in Bali right now, which has the most seductive landscape of ricefields and temples, palms and hills and herons, plus a couple of volcanoes. And it’s tropical, so warm all year round…

I’m turned 40 this year and although usually I would say my favourite destination would be the South if France as its my 40th year I’m going to say that I would love to see the Northern Lights, I’ve read it’s the best year to see them and I think it would be spectacular so for a once in a lifetime expierence I would love to do that.

  92. Yvette says:

Albuquerque, New Mexico so I can catch a ride into space via Virgin Galactic (by way of the VLA and the Trinity test site where the first atom bomb was dropped). I think that ride is a bit more than what one sands to win here, but you just asked where and not that it had to be realistic, just that I wanted to do it. 😛

  93. Luanna says:

I will travel anywhere!!! I have a hankering to see Antarctica and breathe in the cold fresh air. I want to hear ice crash into the water and see what wildlife tolerates the temperatures.
Being over 40 and thinking I am at least 29 years old makes me feel better about my true age. Age real is a measure on someone else’s measurement tool. Youth is in the heart and your actions;)

  100. A trip to the Big Island of Hawaii sounds pretty tempting right about now!

  101. Oh – why. It’s Hawaii – do I really need to give a reason? It’s, you know, awesome and tropical and relaxing and beautiful and there’s a live volcano there.

  102. Duuuude. Age too? You didn’t ask for age in the purple thing that says, “All you need to do is leave me a comment saying where you’d like to escape to and why, then click ENTER on the widget.” I’m 39.

  103. susie says:

I am 25 and I’d like to travel, with my fiance, to Pakistan. I’d love to see the other half of the partitioned India, meet the people, hear their language, see their culture. I want to travel all around South America to TRULY become fluent in Spanish. Being a counselor in the future for women + children rescued from sex trafficking necessitates another language in my mind, and Spanish is it.

  111. Eva says:

Dream destination: Mongolia. Why? I’ve always dreamed of riding a yak across the Gun Galuut Nature Reserve, tenting out in the Cobi Desert, and participating in the arching event of the Naadam Festival, clothed in traditional deel wardrobe.

  112. Tracey says:

I would love to win an Escape to Guayaquil, Ecuador! My family (My husband Rob, beautiful son Makai and me) is in the process of selling most of what we own to slow travel through South America.
Given the prize, however, we’d probably opt for a trip to Adelaide, to visit some of the family, with a lovely Dive with the Dolphins thrown in, because it sounds amazing, and a drive around the Adelaide Hills, because they’re lovely (& there’s cheese & wine!) 🙂

  114. Mary S. says:

My name is Joel from the Philippines, and I would like to fulfill that promise for my Dad, even if he’s gone. I hope I get this chance.

  123. Jenny says:

I want to go to Socotra off the coast of Yemen. Everyone keeps telling me it’s too dangerous but it’s still relatively untouched and has a ton of exotic life that is located no where else on earth. It would be awesome to have the opportunity to visit!

  129. travel travel
    far and wide
    where to go
    i can’t decide
    here the competition’s tough
    must work hard
    strut my stuff

    sea and sand
    snowy slope
    is saying ‘both’
    too much to hope
    how to slice
    between the two
    i’ve been before
    nothing new

    i love to ski
    i love to dive
    how they make me
    feel alive
    back to Dahab
    plane to Sharm
    cost is low
    so there’s no harm
    in flying to Geneva too

    Theodora
    please tell Zac
    i’ve made my choice
    when do I pack?

  130. Caroline Higson says:

I’d escape to Chicago, USA, because my Dad lives there and I’ve not seen him for over 2 years!

  131. Hi again Theodora,

In the rush to post my poem above, I didn’t spot that the first word of the last line should be ‘when’ and not ‘what’. I know I’m being OCD as usual – my fault and I should know better – a failed perfectionist; but ‘when’ makes better sense at the end, seeing as the poem already indicates that packing might be complicated.

I guess you don’t have a lot of time to reply to silly demands of this nature, but I’d be so grateful if you could help with this one, teeny-weeny edit. If not, no probs, I promise not to bear any grudge 🙂

    Thanks and best wishes,

    Alison.

  132. Jane Easthope says:

I really want to go to Lisbon: I’m a sucker for metropolitan transportation systems and I just found out about the street elevators.

  136. Andrew says:

Send me somewhere warm quiet and relaxing my kids are driving this 44 year old single dad nuts.

  137. Rodrigo says:

Oi galera! Vou escrever em Português para ganhar mais pontos de criatividade. Me chamo Rodrigo e eu tenho 27 anos…… brincadeira

My name is Rodrigo and I am 27 years old. Since I am Brazilian, I think I would most like to go to Mozambique to meet another colony of Portugal and see how the mixture of the native African cultures and languages with the Portuguese has created a special culture (similar to how the mixture of African, Indigenous and Portuguese has created a special culture, language and accent here in Brazil). I would, of course, also love to see the beaches, the history and the wildlife there as well! I mean really, just go look up Mozambique in google images and you’ll see! Thanks!

    I am 27.

  138. Jennifer Blair says:

“Its not the destination, but the journey that matters most.”

Using the airline voucher, I’d fly to Chicago with my father. From there, we would rent a car (a convertible of course) and begin traveling down Route 66 to Los Angeles. We would stop and visit the Trail of Tears, the big blue whale and Cadillac Ranch.

If you combine my age with my father’s age and divided by 4, we would still be over 25 years of age.

  139. Michelle North says:

I would like to travel because it terrifies me; the thought of travelling alone with my son, having responsibility for him in new places & making decisions without another adult present, who loves him as much as I do, scares me to the point of paralysis. I was never like this before – I often travelled independently, even as a teen.
My son is going to be 9 in January. I too am a single mum. Perhaps one trip will lead to more ‘travels with a nine year old’ adventuring?
I’d like to start by taking my son to Corfu to find out more about Gerald Durrell he read about in ‘My family and other animals’ (who lived a lifestyle my son craves – freedom, intellectual & physical). There is a week in May that looks fascinating for a start: http://www.durrell-school-corfu.org/GDCorfu2012.htm
Education & Exploration – a lifestyle that really draws my interest right now. I’m not quite ready at this point to take on a neverending journey … but a taster may well set the fire alight. 🙂

  140. Michelle North says:

Ooops…realise that was not particularly creative!..will blame this on a wet day spent persuading my son to go to School – dragging him up the hill…to an evening trying to persuade him away from his after school club…
Yours, shattered mother of gorgeous 8 year old son. (38)!

  141. The US. Why? Because sometimes it IS nice to visit…even if it most certainly is not home for us, anymore!! 🙂 I think by next summer my family will want to see us again!

  142. Shehan El Sayed says:

  145. Di Anthony says:

The thing I miss most about being away from home is “being connected” with those I love and miss from home. I wait anxiously for emails or messages. So, because you are away from home, I am expecting you like to “stay connected” too. I will give you hints of where I would like to go and why as a message on your Facebook page. A little puzzle to keep you connected to someone who is reading and give you a little anticipation every day.

  146. Claire D says:

    Anywhere away from it all

  147. I want to escape to Iran. It’s somewhere I’m being continually told is too dangerous to visit, to alien, to hostile. But I know that is far from the truth. I want to get out there and see for myself because I’m convinced that it’ll be one of the greatest places I’ve ever been. With some of the most hospitable and interested people anywhere. If I got out there I’d tell the world the truth, whatever I found, and try so hard to break down the lies and propaganda we hear at home.

Of course, if it turned out to be impossible to use this prize to reach Iran then I’d go and explore the American Dream in a road trip around California, probably fitting in Coachella festival and a nice trundle around plenty of vineyards!

  148. So here goes my attempt at the extra entries for creativity

  149. Now 26, I’m itching to see all countries in Asia before I fly farther to the west. I am excited to hop from one Asian country to another, making memories along the way.

  152. Louise Hutchings says:

My Husband grew up in various places in New South Wales Australia from the age of 4 to 16 years old when his parents moved back to the UK.
He remembers that time in his life so fondly and is always talking about what a great childhood he had.
and I know he would love go back for a visit, to see old school friends and take me to all the places from his stories.

Why I want to go again
    I could never tell

    and every one of them
    takes me back
    to Paris. with Love.

  158. Micki says:

    Southern Europe in the spring!

  159. Susan says:

Hmmm…would I have to take the children with me if I win? Does this come with babysitting services provided by you? That makes ALL the difference. My girls can cook, are good at cleaning and our little guy would idolize Zac in ways he could only imagine.
Nah…wouldn’t be as much fun without them, so I’d have to pick Austria…when it is warm…and take the cheesy “Sound of Music” tour and dress the children up in draperies and make them sing “Do Re Mi” while spinning around on a mountain top while I do my best to impersonate Julie Andrews. Then reward them with some chocolate. Sounds like a plan, don’t you think?

  160. Susan says:

Oops…didn’t realize I needed to post my age (38) until I clicked that I posted a comment. Maybe I need to rewards myself with some chocolate right now…

    • Theodora says:

Yes, that requirement’s causing a lot of hassle. I should maybe have left it out as a requirement. But, y’know, I don’t want to go giving the car hire to someone who’s too young to drive or hire a car.

  168. Pam says:

Hi. I’m from Brazil and I’m living in India now, my next stop I’d like to be Turkey or Tanzania. I would like to go as part of a mission, I’ve been traveling and want to keep traveling long enough to collect sufficient material for a project called “Notes of Hope” while I go I collect notes of people I meet along the way, talking about their dreams and wishes, in the end I’ll produce a book designed by different artists, representing the culture from the different places, which makes very important to pass by different countries, from India I’m already able to go to SEA and after Iran and Turkey, Africa would be a great call.

  169. Pam says:

  170. I wouldn’t go far, I would take my horse to a local beach for a gallop and a swim

  171. Since I’m already in Indonesia I’d love to go to Papua to see the culture there. Specially that whenever I mention this to Indonesian people they laugh at me and say “why do you want to go to see naked people? they are stupid people and they are not civilized!” and this makes me want to go even more! Because now I am sure that in Papua the culture and traditions are still kept alive!

And in general I would just love to escape, anywhere! You know I really don’t want to head back home any time soon 😀

    I’m 23 😛

    • Jaime Dowling says:

I live in the UK – you have to come over some time, it’s lovely. Scotland is gorgeous, all wild and mystical, Wales is loads of beautiful rolling hills, but England is my home and I can’t recommend it highly enough. London for the culture, Cornwall for the coast and the people. I love the US and visit when I can – but I always come home.

  177. Jenny says:

I want to escape because I’ve been in a freakin’ hospital since October 3rd and ANYWHERE would be better than here. :]

And just for you Zac… ;]

  179. Jaime Dowling says:

New Zealand. My mum and stepdad have been there for going on 18 months now, they will come home in a few months but I’d love to go and see them. Why? Partly because I miss them and I’d love to see the places they talk about, but if I’m being honest… mainly because I’m a single parent with a wonderful, but extremely hard work 4 year old, and if I went to see my mum she’d get up with my daughter and let me lie in! Oh, a lie in… haven’t had one of them for almost 5 years. Is New Zealand too far to go for a lie in? Nope! (Oh, I’m 36 by the way)

Have you ever seen Alice in the Wonderland? I loved that movie as a child, well truthfully the first time I saw it,it actually frightened me, then I fell in love!! I watched the movie over and over again just imagining what it would be like to be Alice for a day in that exotic and enchanting forest. I always imagined a place like that never existed, but in fairytales or in my case daydreams. I recently read an article about a place that was 250 miles of the southern coast of Somalia called the Yemeni Island of Socotra described to be like something out of Alice in the Wonderland. I instantly googled everything I could find out about this Island described as a fairytale and about the size of long Island!! Apparently things in dreams do exist and I would be blessed to excape to Yemeni Island of Socotra!!

  191. Anne-Marie says:

I’d love to see the rock-cut churches of Ethiopia. 40+ years ago it was a toss up whether we went to Afghanistan or Chad. We chose Afghanistan because it was easier to get a travel grant (Hellenistic remains, any-one?)and the £250 my college gave me funded three months of travel in the summer of 1969. So now I’d like to go to Africa, and of all the things I want to see, Lalibele tops the list. (63)

I would put this money towards travelling again to Arnhem Land and maybe this time spending enough time to work in some of the special communities over there. Our favourite was Mapuru where the people opened their hearts to us. We would all love to work in their little school and pay back a little of their generosity. Thought Zac might be interested in the little story my son wrote when we spent a couple of nights there in 2007. http://www.arnhemweavers.com.au/tours-2007_september.htm
Note: Ramesh is the one wearing the brown t’shirt with the pink elephant from our visit to Sri Lanka the previous year. 🙂

I love travelling, getting to know new cultures, new people, seeing different landscapes…
It’s like my eyes absorb everything they see, they are always hungry and never get enough of it.
I love speaking to foreign people, trying to understand their different point of view, improving my language skills…
Though my age I love comic books and hero suffs, and guess what super power I would like to have? Teleportation ( or teleport?)
Just to escape…anywhere!…but I do not have enough money at the moment. I’m an Italian student and unemployed (crisis everywhere!)…
Actually, I would like to escape to the beautiful Australia, a one-way ticket, looking for a job there, starting my life from scratch.
My lover lives there, so if I win, I can also stop daydreaming about a real life with him.
I swear, this is the competition a daydream about everyday 🙂 An evidence of some days ago http://imageshack.us/a/img507/5162/daydreaming.jpg
Anyway, if something is meant to happen, it’ll happen.
Congrats for 1000 days and thank you so much for this huge opportunity.

P.S. Sorry if I made some language mistakes…Oh, I’ll be 25 on Christmas day 🙂 Hope to celebrate it in a warm place 😛

First 2 we have never been too and Cambodia is one of those places I cant get enough of !!!

I cant drive (Tried a few times and failed miserably) but make an excellent passenger… I do have a Fiance (He is 26) who loves to drive which is fortunate as I love being driven!! Our favorite holidays have been renting a car and getting as lost as possible!!!

Hi there! I almost gave up on this, because I was sure I wouldn’t win, but I decided to bring my brave travel momma self here to enter, instead. I’ previously stated (in the wrong section) that i wanted to go to India, but I’ve got two girls (and a husband) who try to travel like you do, but sometimes hit a rut. We are stuck in America, and would love a little, just a little help getting o Thailand, so that they can ride the elephants on the beach, and they can practice their Chinese in China. We have been trying to get to Asia for 6 years, and it never happens. Do I win?
