Merry Christmas!

As those of you who keep up with us on Facebook know, I’m really rather behind on my blogging.

So I thought I’d interrupt our Everest Base Camp saga to wish you all a very, very Happy Christmas, and say thanks to everyone who’s shared, commented on or just plain old read our life over the last year or so.

We were hoping to be in Chitwan, spotting rhino, or even Beijing, but we’re actually stuck in Kathmandu (long story…), which is, like China, a largely Christmas-free zone.

And, to be honest, that’s actually kind of nice. Everyone in the city is going about their business, it’s a day like any other*, and — but for working out how we get our presents to folks in the UK and Oz — there’s close to zero stress.

Zac has been looking after the food planning, which means we’re going out for a turkey buffet tonight, served, no doubt, by gentlemen in flashing Santa hats…

I’ve got him a few small presents to open, while he’s spending his Christmas money on downloadable games. His main present, like his birthday present (paragliding), will be experiential: either whitewater rafting here or his favourite theme park in Beijing.

I’ve already had my present: my boots broke today, so he thoughtfully bought me a pair of fake North Face trainers (Right size! Right colour! Decent style! Go Zac!).

After he opens his presents, it’s an exciting trip to the Chinese Embassy (possibly also to be filed under Mishaps), a Skype chat with various family members in various Australian time zones, then turkey for him and Chateaubriand for me for lunch.

Then we’re seeing The Hobbit in 3D, playing a round or two of mini-golf, and heading back to base in time to Skype chat with his Dad, who’s snowboarding in the US, and another round of family in the UK.

We’ve spent Christmas in Kenya, Australia and the UK so far, so to add another continent to our Christmas list feels really kinda cool…

Happy Christmas, y’all!

*EDIT: Insanely, Christmas is actually a public holiday in Nepal. So we did get our hit of rampant Christmas Eve style consumerism after all.

    Merry Christmas to y’all too!

I’m actually skiing in the USA too, in Park City, Utah, but won’t bother to ask where he’s at because this is one of like three places that don’t allow snowboarders, so can’t be where I am. 😉
